Our Values

Our bookshop doesn't just sell great books, we also contribute to change that matters, by supporting and advocating for refugees living within Sydney and the Blue Mountains.

We've worked with refugees & asylum seekers for over 10 years, both in Australia and overseas. We're committed to our friends in this community and recognise the daily systemic injustice faced by many of the people we work with.

We're a LGBTQI+ registered safe place. And a safe place for anyone regardless of gender, sexuality, religion, politics or anything else.

Our bookshop is also a social enterprise, where 50% of our profit goes to local refugee charities including the Blue Mountains Refugee Support GroupAmiculus: The Humble Friend Project and Rural Australians for Refugees. These carefully selected organisations share our values, encourage community and recognise the social injustices faced by this community and many others in Australia.

Remembering and addressing this Nation's past is imperative in seeking justice and for individual and collective healing processes.

We respectfully acknowledge the Darug and Gundungurra people, who are the traditional owners of the land on which we are fortunate to live and work. We pay our respects to Elders, past, present and emerging. We respect the cultures, heritage and continuing sovereignty of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Nations.

We recognise that Australia was founded on the genocidal murder and dispossession of First Nations people and that this land was never ceded.

We acknowledge that colonial policies and structures remain today, and recognise the ongoing struggles of First Nations people in dismantling these structures.

Being based within the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains also reminds us everyday of the need to care for and protect our precious ecosystem.

We send all orders using either 100% recycled / recyclable material or compostable mailers from Hero Packaging. We also use Australia Post's carbon-neutral delivery service. Nearly everything in our bookshop has been donated, bought second-hand or picked up from the side of the road. We also share our space with Meltdown Artisan specialty chocolates and Gnocked Up handmade gnocchi, both of whom are focused on using sustainable and ethical goods to create their delicious products.
