At Sublime Point Reserve, Leura

The 4.5 ha Sublime Point Reserve (the Reserve) is part of Sublime Point in south Leura, in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales. It lies about 1km north of the Sublime Point Lookout, a popular tourist attraction.

The centre lies at -33.73 S; 150.34 E, GR 535565. The Reserve was gazetted on 9 March 1917 as Crown Reserve 52069. It comprises numbers 65-99 Sublime Point Road, being Lot No. 7314 in DP 1144471, and Property ID 223515.

The Reserve is bounded by World Heritage Blue Mountains National Park in the west, by Sublime Point Road and World Heritage Blue Mountains National Park in the east, by Willoughby Road in the north, and by the rear of the first six properties on the north of West Street. It lies 920-930m above sea level.

he Reserve is an important wildlife corridor between two parts of the World Heritage Blue Mountains National Park. Three quarters of the Reserve is virgin bush and, until recent times, one quarter was a badly degraded weed-infested wasteland.

On Australia Day, 26 January 1996, a group of local residents set out to reverse the despoliation of the past and, with support from the Blue Mountains City Council (Council), formed the Sublime Point Bushcare Group (SPBG). Its principal objective was to restore the whole of the Reserve to a condition of a public asset.

This history documents the activities of the SPBG over 25 years, from inception in 1996 to 2021.
